Successful industrial hydraulic boiler test to 1.5 times working pressure

JE&T were requested to prepare an industrial boiler for its hydraulic boiler test at a factory in Lincoln.

What is a hydraulic boiler test?

The hydraulic test of an industrial boiler is a safety test that is conducted to verify the integrity of the boiler’s pressure vessels and its associated safety valves. The hydraulic test involves filling the boiler with water and pressurizing it to a predetermined level. The test pressure is usually 1.5 times the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) of the boiler.

During the hydraulic boiler test, the boiler is first isolated from the steam system and all other auxiliary systems. The safety valves are also isolated and tagged out of service. Water is then slowly pumped into the boiler until it is completely filled. The water is then pressurized to the predetermined test pressure, and the pressure is held for a specified amount of time, typically 30 minutes to 1 hour.

While the test pressure is being held, the boiler is inspected for any leaks or deformations. Any leaks or deformations must be corrected before the boiler can be returned to service. After the test is completed, the water is drained from the boiler, and the safety valves are re-installed and tested to ensure they are functioning correctly.

It is important to conduct regular hydraulic tests on industrial boilers to ensure that they are operating safely and efficiently. This test helps to identify any potential safety hazards or structural weaknesses in the boiler, which can be addressed before they become major issues.

Overall, prioritizing maintenance and regularly inspecting industrial boilers can help ensure their safe and efficient operation, while also preventing potential safety hazards and costly downtime.

How can JE&T help?

JE&T can assist with any of the work from preparations, repairs, consumable supplies and the hydraulic boiler test itself. We have worked a wide range of insurance and inspection companies over the years.
